I was playing high school football at the time locally

in the NRV in the 70's and every Friday Coach would come into the locker room and hand out tickets to VT games for free. Said he wanted us to go and study the position we played, so he made it like a football "assignment". Later on, in Beamer's very early years, I had gotten married and had a kid. I would load my infant up, grab all the gear and go to the games at halftime and just walk in and sit in the bleacher seats. Never got asked about a ticket which was good. I never had one. Obviously, I didn't need one.

You are right. A lot of the distress we are seeing from our fanbase now doesn't compare to the way it used to be at VT. But by the same token, even those of us that remember and were part of the time you speak of have no inclination to return to it, either.

But a lot of folks are seeming to remember Beamer's last few years and forgetting that even those last few years were light years ahead of his first couple after arriving back in Blacksburg, and we had a heck of a ride in between..
