Agree, but the decline started long before Fu arrived.

Franks Beamers last 4 years were not much better against P5 competition than where Fu has been. I'm not defending Fu either, but what I am getting at is exactly this.....

2004- It was proven statistically, on the field, eyeball test, upset fans that Stinespring was a failed experiment as the OC. He should have been gone, long gone at the end of 2004. Beamer refused, and would even get defensive and angry in the press conferences when pushed on Stiney and the offense.

2004-2012- A slow and steady drop in offensive recruiting at the WR, OL, and QB positions. I know, we got Tyrod, the last great get, but he was an exception to the rule. For all the recruiting prowess supposedly had, he turned off scores of offensive recruits at the skilled positions that never gave us a look. Guys like Percy Harvin, Manuel at QB, etc. Their coaches were not sending kids to Tech in our offensive system. Meanwhile, the defensive recruiting maintained and we got wins in defensive battles and conference titles due to defensive battles and a weak ACC.

2011ish, slowly but surely, the offensive recruiting woes had got so bad, it started to trickle in the overall wins and losses columns. Meaning, losses becoming more frequent. By 2012, the wins and losses had piled up enough, and our former prowess as a program gone down to the point that this effected defensive recruiting. Remember the misses on the DL in Virginia? Meanwhile, Stiney STILL in charge of the offense and Beamer didn't budge. To put a patch on the issue, he "hired" a new OC which was a puppet to Stiney and had the guy setting right beside the guy he replaced in the booth! Imagine if that were a cooperation. Finally, all recruiting effected and losses kept piling up. Right now, we are where we are at similar to Beamers last 4 years.

The problem was actually Beamer. For all the good he did, and he did do good. He brought our program to prominence and is a sure well deserved Hall of Famer, but we are in this situation NOT because Beamer stayed to long, but we are in this position because Beamer kept Stiney around for a decade to long. That decision, that fatal decision forever changed our program to the point that it may take decades to get back to early 2000s form. We were winning ACC titles and knowing, absolutely knowing that deep down, we have a major offensive problem and we knew it would catch up. That problem was already in offensive recruiting effect woes at the time of the ACC titles. It caught us in 2012.
