Fu decided to keep Bud. Now, I think he did that in an attempt to make
the transition easier and provide some shielding against a defensive decline if he had let Bud go. Imagine if in his first year with his hire at D coordinator the D collapsed. Essentially every fan would have blamed Fu for getting rid of Bud, who has been labeled a Defensive genius and is a legend in Blacksburg.
So, would it have been better to clean house? Maybe. But hindsight is 20/20, right? His first year could have been a train wreck. The situation is what it is. No way to know for sure what would have been better.
