years before fuente came aboard. it happens more often than we can afford to have if we want to be a perennial conference contender. but it's not, IMO, a fuente problem; it happens to 80% or more of coaches that are out there right now. I want to find a coach who DOESN'T have this happen, but there are damn few of them. And most of them that DO exist have teams loaded with talent, meaning that they can afford to sleepwalk a game periodically and still out-talent the opponent. I would say 10 of 65 P5 teams fit this bill. Everyone else is in the same boat as VT...fail to bring your A game, and you're gonna go down.
