It does feel we've developed a terrible organizational culture at VT

There is something collectively off. Like with the Jets, Browns or Dolphins off. We all left campus many years ago knowing it was transformational for us because we were a national nobody that developed a brand of hard work and determination. It was geniune. Our school has established itself as producing amazing leaders in their respective fields, sport and communities. Hokies are top shelf people. They are exceptional.

It wasn't one event, but many large and small events that have seemed to convert us in a losing culture with a negative cloud constantly hovering. The tragic shooting, the heartbreaking losses in football and hoops (JMU, ODU, Boise, Kansas, Sean Dockery), massive attrition ranging from hall of fame coaches, to bad coaches, to very talented players, to toxic players... we cannot seem to shake this bad energy. We have decent players bolt to the NFL despite common knowledge that they won't make the cut, gutting our depth. Players that leave our hoops program have often made the NCAA tourney with other teams. The spooky foot injuries. The lack of depth at cornerback for a place that calls itself DBU. The recruiting whiffs like DD. We somehow established bad blood with ECU for crying out loud - they are some of the nicest people on the planet and treated us with class after 4/16. The Kentucky bowl game is just a recent example. We let a punk punch one of our players, and then totally takeover a game including a last minute throw, against a defense that was defending the run poorly all day, on the last play, of the last game, for a Hall of Famer defensive coach Bud. In another cruel twist, the refs made some bizarre, horrific calls against us that probably cost us the game, like overturning an INT and flagging us for "abusive language" while their QB strutted into the endzone taunting us with no flags. The karmic mind f*** is just too much for my heart to handle if you believe good things happen to good people. We've developed a complex and the fans are now projecting it because we are terrified every time we see a Hokie headline. With the exception of a few, we're soft af - emotionally and physically. I don't know what we did to the sports gods to offend them so much but this is heartbreaking. This isn't about Hunter. It's about a larger arc that we're seeing play out. I feel there is something generational about this. The coaches and kids are just wired differently. The world is different than 30 years ago. I know we're not alone but I just want to stop feeling so damn bad for following / supporting Hokie sports.
