You and me both...

I would prefer a HS kid with upside who can grow into a larger role rather than someone who will command minutes early...someone versatile who can play either the 4 or the 5 to help with depth and matchups at both spots.

If VT takes 4, it likely isnt a good thing as it means someone with eligibility has decided to go elsewhere. Im not sure theres a player left on the roster who I would shrug at leaving. They all can fit into a role with a championship level team. Wilkins made sense because he didnt fit. Nolley made sense because he wanted to be something he couldnt. PJ Horne even made sense, because of the fit, but he didnt leave for those reasons.

Alleyne is a phenomenal 3rd-4th option when on the floor. Cattoor and Radford are excellent glue guys who will dive for loose balls, get the 50/50 wins more often than not and bring all the intangibles (and Cattoor can shoot). Aluma brings a veteran big body who knows the system. Cone is a phenomenal scoring spark and matchup problem.

The rest of the players with multiple years of eligibility will be the core of VT going forward. It should be unsettling to lose any of the above players. Building around them will be key. Adding to the roster BEHIND this group is ideal (adding Freshmen and Soph) as opposed to the grad transfer route because there arent any holes to fill. You would like young players who can learn from this core and develop into larger roles in 3 or 4 years to build sustained success. Not to mention, continually adding grad transfers to learn a system diminshes the return of those grad transfers. They will spend most of their time learning the systen when everyone else is growing within it.
