No one knows what might happen in 5, 10, 20, 50, or 100 years. VT might get two or three "once in a life time players," might hire a coach who exceeds all expectations and who can recruit well;
Tech might have a rich alum donate a huge amount of money and put the athletic budget on a plane not before realized. While it may not be likely that VT will be elite, it is not a foregone conclusion. To express your opinion as a definite fact is to suggest you have a perfect view of the future. I can say with the same amount of confidence reflected in your post that VT will indeed be elite in football; also in basketball, baseball, wrestling and women's basketball.
