The reward? Tens (hundreds?) of thousands get to keep their livelihoods.
Instead of getting thrown out of work, leading to increased rates of alcoholism, drug addition, suicide, child abuse, financial ruin, etc.
Round and round we go. The toll of shutting down college football is tremendous. Don't pretend like it's black and white, as if it's "players and coaches in danger" versus "players and coaches (and everyone else) safe."
In the second scenario, where college ball is canceled and the players are "safe," not everyone IS safe. Some lives will spiral out of control, possibly leading to death. But you won't hear about that. Everyone will be too busy counting cases of COVID.
