And 60 days later bye-bye to college basketball.


Somehow, the national perspective has changed from "flatten the curve" (which was pretty much accomplished) to "eliminate the virus" (which won't be accomplished). We can debate both sides of those issues all day long, but it's hard to argue against the fact that nothing is going to change in the next 60-120 days with the spread of the virus. Thus, the cancellation of winter sports will be coming down the road in October or November.

The virus may lessen in some areas and surge in others, but it isn't going to disappear to the point where all the decision makers open the schools, universities, and resume athletic competition. The pros will try and make a go of it, but not the colleges.

The justification for shutting down schools and athletics is "it isn't safe for the students/participants". So, if I agree with that premise, then let me ask a question:

"When will it be safe?" - none of the decision makers have an answer to that question, do they?
