I bet the 2025 VT at PSU game gets cancelled ...

The 2 schools agreed to the H&H in 2020/2025 seasons under a good faith agreement that both games would be played. Obviously, that's not going to happen and now VT can play the "that's not fair card" (I don't disagree and would be saying the same thing if the situation were reversed). So, the door has been cracked for VT to bail out of the game at PSU in 2025.

First, your AD will make a courtesy call to PSU to see if PSU would be willing to get out of one its games already scheduled in 2021-2024 and come to Blacksburg. Of course, he already knows the answer to that request will be "no" and here is why ...

The Big10 plays 9 conference games which means they only have 3 OOC games. More importantly, every other year they alternate between 4 home/5 away. In the years of only 4 home conference games, it is practically "mandatory" that they have their 3 OOC games as home games to give them the "financially necessary" 7 home games.

In 2021, PSU has only 4 home conference games. Their 3 OOC games are all home with Ball State, Auburn, and Villanova. From a financial perspective, PSU is certainly not going to drop a home game with 100,000+ ticket sales and associated revenue for an away game at VT (nor would I expect VT to do that if the situation were reversed).

In 2022, PSU has 5 home conference games and 2 home OOC games. They go to Auburn as one of their OOC games. Again, there is no way they drop one of those two home OOC games to travel to VT considering they are already traveling to Auburn and need the other 2 home games to give them 7 home games.

In 2023, only 4 home conference games and 3 home OOC games - one being WVU. Just like 2021, they are not going to drop a 7th home game for a road game.

In 2024, 5 home conference games and a road game at WVU. They do have an OOC opening on the schedule for that year, but you can be sure it will be a home game against a cupcake to give them the necessary 7 home games.

So, now the "business" side of the issue from VT's perspective. From a financial consideration, I am sure VT recognizes they will come out ahead by paying the contract cancellation penalty to PSU and substituting a home game against some cupcake.

From PSU's perspective, PSU will probably break even or come out ahead by accepting your contract penalty fee and substituting the VT home game with a one and done cupcake, too.

So, both teams come out ahead financially and both teams avoid taking a potential loss on the season and its a win-win for everybody - except for us fans who would much rather see both of our teams match up against each other than beat up on some over-matched junior varsity substitution.

Maybe we can meet in a NY 6 bowl or CFP game some day, because I don't think we will see a regular season match up. Too bad for us fans.
