Chose to be a student-athlete at VT over an offer to do so at UNC. Also spent a few years working as a coach at Tech. I love our school more than most, but I also understand the athletics world in a practical way.

My teammates from the northeast all grew up loving UNC, and had only heard of VT in passing due to news stories from their childhood.

Just stating a fact that UNC is popular to people all over the country. It’s flashy. Football players nowadays look for flash. I agree it’s a Sissy school, but I also understand that feeling is all my hokie bias. Besides, being a hardass like Saban only works now when you’re pulling in a national title every other year and spitting out a dozen draft picks a year. (I do agree that our ceiling for wrestling is way better than UNC. UNC is a soft school after all. And wrestling culture is way more intense than football.)

With that being said, I still am bullish on how well Mack will actually coach at UNC. I’m hopeful that they’re great recruiters without the real dirty coaching skills to win big games. We’ll see
