Let’s talk odds.
Right now, studies have shown that the average American has a 0.3% chance of contracting COVID-19 and dying. To put that in the context of a normal football game (I looked up the numbers too), you’re more likely to:
- die in a car accident on your way to the game
- die getting hit by a car while you’re walking into the game
- die from a violent assault from a random person during the game
- die from heat stroke during the warmer weather games
- die from skin cancer later in life due to exposure during the games
- die from dehydration and/or diarrhea as byproducts of stadium food
- die from contracting the flu at the game
And for fun: somewhat similar odds getting struck by lightning during the game. (A few fans around you would also be impacted by the strike).
So, if you’re staying home because of COVID-19, it logically follows you’d never go to another game again, based on statistical threats you’d encounter.
