As Will pointed out on Twitter, Auburn's APR clocked in a 982 last year


good enough for 22nd in the APR rankings. VT was 953 (T104, one of the worst in FBS).

That was probably the only information he was given and he ran with it by saying Auburn is better academically.

Yikes.
