Big time programs are going to be lining up local companies, companies owned by donors, etc. to sign up players and recruits to sponsorship deals as soon as possible. Why cut a sponsorship check to the program when you can cut a sponsorship check directly to a difference-making player? It's only going to make the gap larger at the top and I'm sure it's already affecting recruiting. It does not seem like VT is well positioned to take advantage of the rule.
