As of now, the drop-dead date is April 30th.

That's the best you're going to get from VTAF. What else are they supposed to say?

"You're right. As of today, the drop-dead date is April 30th. But in 15 days, we *might* push that date to May 29. But don't tell anybody, because we haven't made a final decision yet!"

No different than the question millions of people are asking right now --- "Hey Mr. Employer, is my job safe? Because if not, I need to start job-hunting."

Sure, your job is safe today, and your employer can probably vouch for the next two weeks, or 2-3 months. But beyond that, who really knows? As the saying goes, your mileage may vary.

Or last year, Dodge was running a Power Dollars promotion ($10 off the car, for every horsepower). I think the initial expiration was Labor Day 2019. As Labor Day approached, many people were asking about an extension of Power Dollars. As if to say "Ok Dodge, I know the drop-dead date is Labor Day. But before I make my purchase decision (or *not* purchase), you need to tell me the drop-dead date is now December 31, 2019."

Then it wouldn't be a drop-dead date, would it?

Or every state that isn't under a stay-at-home order. Guess what, nobody is under a stay-at-home order...............................until they're under a stay-at-home order. They've been announced a couple days in advance, but it isn't as though Governors are giving 30-day notices.

(FWIW, the Power Dollars are still available, seven months later)
