You can improve as a shooter as your career goes on. I'm going waaaay back but we had a player in the late 70s named Perry Young. Great athlete who could not shoot from the outside at the early stage of his career at all; but he worked on it and got progressively better and was a fairly decent shooter by the end of his career.
