I'm not sure I see the value of a "point" guard anymore.

We saw it with Buzz, how everyone had "license" to facilitate the offense. But now it's everywhere. Yes, Bede is the PG but Cone and Nolley facilitate just as well. The traditional PG used to have a position at the top of an offense and responsibility to get back on D while everyone else crashed the O-Boards. Not any longer. That O position is just as integrated as every other spot and now everyone but maybe one guy gets back on D.

I was watching my local HS team play last week. Our starting Center was out so we had to start our next biggest guy. We aren't a big team but our 2nd guy is literally 5'9" and built like a fire hydrant. He's a great rebounder and defender and you aren't moving him around. But he plays G a lot, can shoot a little bit. The team we were playing trapped at halfcourt as their base defense. So our coach had that 5'9" fire hydrant bring the ball up the court (even though we have 3 guys who are all-state caliber at G). The point was that the opponent had to guard him with their 6'5" Center and they couldn't trap out of that.

The positions are so different these days. We hear about "we need size" all the time but the opposite is also true. We need versatility.
