The issue is you wearing gear or discussing VT doesn't pay for new

facilities. The problem is not nearly enough people who can give, do. We have the mindset of "what do I get out of it" or "if we start winning ACC titles I'll give (or up my giving)". Both of those are problematic. The money needs to come first and the reason needs to be "because I want us to be able to compete with peer schools".

I'm not going to get into who is and isn't a Hokie. That's pointless and counterproductive. But we have plenty of fans who complain about the coach or the recruiting or the losses who don't donate anything. Fans who want us to compete at the level of Clemson (when we're not even keeping up with Rutgers) who don't donate anything. Pay or shut up is a blunt way of putting it but it's not completely wrong. If we want to keep pace with the upper half of college football, we need more money. If we don't want spend more money then we need to re-calibrate the expectations. Those are pretty much the options.
