Disagree, strongly and rationally, and here's why

Fu had an offer from Baylor. He was considering it. The timing was atrocious for VT and for at least some coaches who had decided to come to VT. It's unclear what Whit knew and when (I'm not sure I buy the post-event explanations). Apparently Fu turned it down. And the lessons learned are:

- VT is in a precarious position in terms of having competitive football facilities, and at least one coach will leave partially because he thinks he will have trouble winning at VT as a result of thoat lack of facilities and related support.

- The world now knows two things, 1) the point above, and 2) that our current football coach would entertain offers to leave. You have to wonder how that plays with recruits and potential recruits.

Basically VT has been an "Aw shucks, it's an honor just to be here" kind of place for football for decades. It is now OFFICIALLY an "what have you done for me, lately?" place, like most every other school. And the onus is on VT (and its donors, fans, etc.) to do something or this happens again, and Fu doesn't stay.

I would say the reaction was pretty proportional. I never like the personal comments, but people didn't know exactly what was happening and the timing was just awful. If this had happened at the end of the season, reaction would have been much more mixed.
