Think about our own team last year..
If it wasn't an open 3, we were taking the ball to the basket. I bet we shot less than fifty 2 point FGs from outside the paint last year. This isn't unique to Buzz, but a much wider trend in the sport.
The math is pretty simple.....there isn't much difference in FG % between a mid range 2 and a 3. Obviously the 3 is more valuable so why would you forfeit the opportunity for the extra point? The only way taking a 2 makes sense is if you increase the FG% by moving closer to the basket (the paint) which has the added benefit of increasing your chances of getting fouled.
A mid range two point shot just falls on the wrong side of the risk/reward spectrum. [Post edited by RiverCityHokie at 01/14/2020 2:27PM]
