Yup I don’t know at this very early point in MY’s VT career if he

will be as good of a coach as Brent. Brent will do his thing at aTm. He’ll get aTm to an elite 8 or maybe better. But Brent seems to follow that mantra in the Pyromania song that says “it’s better to burn out than fade away.” Looking at New Orleans, Marquette and Tech, Brent looks like a guy who wants to put together ONE special team with no foresight to a future after that one special team peaks at it’s nirvana; either panicking and leaving that program in fear of uncertain future or maybe just being burned out after building that ONE team.

Mike Young seems like a good coach in a Charlie Moir kinda way. My gut tells me that MY will have a sinusoidal wave of ups and downs. Maybe a Sweet 16 one year and a 12 win season another year, and back up to a NIT appearance another year. But I don’t see MY panicking to leave when the future looks uncertain after losing a bunch of talent in a successful year. I could be wrong though.

MY seems like good people. From day one, Brent reminded me of that brash punk kid that no one ever took seriously, but should have. Brent took us to a Sweet 16, but I never expected making a Sweet 16 feel so hollow. If MY gets us to a Sweet 16, I think it will feel right.
