Youre right about passing...

But I didnt expect that to come along this early. That is the hardest part to press on young players who have just spent the last decade being the best player on their team, when they could just dribble around and get what they wanted.

It is much easier to teach "hey man, hold spacing" than it is to teach "hey man, move the ball," when you have an alpha mentality.

Thats not a knock on these kids specifically, thats just a by-product of being a big fish in a small pond for a long time and then getting to the college game.

I think they definitely thought this type of defense gave them a better chance of beating Clemson. My argument is that the goal shouldnt be to beat Clemson Nov 5, 2019 but rather the goal should be to beat Kansas in April of 2022. In order to do that, you need to take the lumps early on because your roster and experience might not match up with what is needed to win in the immediate, but both of those things will change, you dont want to change your defense as you get experienced playing one way.

As far as the late pressure, it seemed like they were caught off-guard in breaking the press. As they ran a specific play to break a generic press rather than having principles to beat a myriad of presses. Thats not surprising, you have a limited time to prepare and if the team youre playing hasnt shown a lot of press, you dont spend as much time on a press break. Im certain theyll cover it in the coming weeks. It was ugly.
