Beamer was loved by the team and he loved the players, same with Foster. He was like a dad to them and gained lots of respect from everyone. Beamer is my cousin but I never met him, so that was a cool thing for me, funny his triple great uncle killed my triple great uncle in Hillsville back in the early 1900s. My Uncle preached against moonshine, Frank's was a moonshiner....you can figure the rest.

Beamer and Foster had so much energy on the sideline which was great, in their prime they were an awesome team. In my mind they were VT and I go all the way back to Dooley in my time. Beamer and Foster = VT football period and I guess they will for a long long time. I guess maybe thats why Coach F is having to work hard for his identity, has to be big shoes to follow. Beamer Ball and Foster D said it all, and teams did fear both....for those that remember..."Beast of the Big East". Beamer was a coach's coach and all the coach's liked and respected him as did every commentator, player, and fan. He was an absolute honest broker and had that country boy way about him.

Beamer was very faithful to his coach's which was good and bad and he would fight for all of them, put them out front ... he was faithful. As Beamer got older he became more conservative with the team and as a result things got less exciting sometimes and we became a bit bland, he was losing his energy and some of the passion he once had. Foster kept his energy but as of late I think he is at that age we all get to, Foster and I are about the same age. The big thing that always got me was Beamer would teach all the other coach's about what Beamer Ball was all about, kind of like giving up your secrets.....after that Beamer Ball was not so much Beamer Ball as it once was. Frank Beamer and Bud Foster will always in my mind be what we are always supposed to be......

Great coach's who gained the respect and trust of every team member, fan, commentator, etc and gave the same back.
