According to some TV analysts, the NFL has a kinda running joke among the coaches. The only time families get to see the head coach during the season is on TV because he basically "lives" at the office. There may even be some coaches, who "live" a few days at the office during the offseason. I can't say if college coaches are just as bad as NFL coaches. It may depend on how much time a coach spends on the road recruiting players.
