QB almost always determines one's success at every level
This is why the first thing Mack Brown did after attending his initial meet the press day, was get in his car and "flip" the 9 month commit QB from FSU to UNC. He knew a good / great QB could make him immediately competitive above all else.
Memphis had a great year due to Lynch and whatever went on in Memphis, it was successful. Schedule wasn't that hard either, just as an fyi.
No secret that our QB play is terrible and that's our biggest problem (not our only by any imagination). Give us Josh Jackson back and we'd have a much more competitive season. Guarantee you Maryland will have a better one than we do and that's not saying much given the state of their program the last 15+ years. This is the weakest group of QBs we've had in 30+ years.
