FWIW I jokingly tell people I "grew up on JMU" because my

late grandmother used to work there (admissions and financial aid) until the 90s and she started taking me to basketball games (when they were played in Godwin) when I was only 6 months old.

I almost ended up at Bridgewater (grew up in the Park View area of the 'Burg), but they couldn't offer me enough scholarships and financial aid to lower the tuition down to be in the ballpark with VT, so I was VT bound. The summer after my FR year at VT I had another opportunity to end up at Bridgewater. I was working a summer Christian camp at TA and an assistant football coach approached me to see if I had any interest to transfer there. Based on my size, he thought I could play strong safety. I chuckled and politely thanked him for the interest, but I quickly pointed out that I have an OL's feet (slow as molasses) so I probably wouldn't be an asset to the team.
