IDK...I know I’m a PATT, but I see the beginnings of an
emerging identity for the program. We are talented and deep at WR...and our OL recruiting has been quite good. I feel like we’re just an elite QB away from a really dynamic offense. I can’t tell if Cornelsen is as bad as all the NATTs think — he sure looked good when Jerod Evans was the QB. We had a good looking O. Maybe it’s Willis’ inconsistency that’s holding things back?
I believe the foundational principles Fuente teaches are good. I think he values substance over style — but we do need to make VT cool again and rebuild confidence. Play with an edge. That’s hard to do defensively when they were AWFUL last year. It’ll take some time and continued recruiting. Offensively, we need an elite QB. We need a guy people really believe in — we don’t have a Tyrol.
To be clear, Willis is a competitor and has arm talent — but he just isn’t elite. He’s our guy this year, and I hope it clicks and he finds ways to get the ball to all those stud WRs...I’m not bashing him...but that, to me, is the missing piece on O.
On the D side, I hope we can find a dynamic and edgy DC who can recruit and get us back to playing with an edge.
