I am close friends with some of the most successful people in the world,

none of them think perfection is the goal. They have pulled people out of burning fires, fixed some of the biggest problems in the world, worked for Presidents and none of them think that way. Progress is way important than perfection when you try to tackle worldwide and even small problems. You seem like a good guy, no reason to be miserable to be excellent:
