Some will probably disagree, but it needs to be said.

We need to come to terms of the fact that Whit has made some mistakes in regards to our football program. I know several of us see Whit as "the man who can do no wrong" but I can think of 3 missteps that have occurred that could haunt us.

1. The Fuente buyout - I am not going to give Whit grief if the Fuente hire doesn't work out as a lot of us were excited and seemed to be a great pull at the time. Not everything works out the way we think it will. However, panicking and rushing Fuente into a contract extension with a hefty buyout so early on is now coming back to bite us. $15M in Year 4 is simply insane. And as we found out with Jimbo, if the big money schools want to swoop in, they will find a way regardless.

2. ODU & Liberty scheduling - Anybody excited to see these guys on our schedule routinely for the next decade or so? Obviously you have to have "buy games" but don't expect fans to get excited to see the same teams come to town every year, especially small in-state mid-majors. Variety is key, even if its a Central Michigan or Arkansas State, that may happen to be good. Not only is it boring for us, but ODU has already beaten us once and would not be surprised if Liberty is able to do it once as well. There is a reason Bama doesn't schedule UAB or South Alabama. Why are we helping build in-state programs that could potentially grow into serious competitors?

3. The ECU cancellation of 2019 - No, not the hurricane fiasco, which I think Whit handled the best he could and got burned. But this year - Whit made an emotional decision to remove ECU from the schedule for future trips to Greenville. A good decision in the long term, not so much in the short-term. If you are going to pull a stunt like that, have an option in place that is just as good if not better. Instead, we get Rhode Island at home...lowering our SOS and now requiring us to win 7 in order to extend the bowl streak. Based off of this past weekend, 7 wins will be harder to achieve than I think we all thought we would. Not saying this is a bad decision, but if we end the year 6-6 and the bowl streak is over because of the 2 FCS teams...oh boy.
