It wasn't really the
applicable to Hoffman's situation since he has a family member with a medical issue. But it was 5 miles out of the allowable distance. If he'd filed the "coaching change" waiver it would have most likely been approved. So by trying to do the "right" thing he got screwed. Regardless of whose fault it is (VT, Hoffman, NCAA) it reflects poorly on the NCAA that lots of players have gotten waivers for much more trivial reasons.
And if it's just a matter of "Oh file the other waiver and we'll approve it" then why is it taking so long?
