We simply don't know yet. It's an unusual situation.

First, let's acknowledge the program had become stagnant and perhaps mediocre at the end of Coach Beamer's time. Most of us now (maybe not 2 years ago) connect him to the "glory days," excusing the decline. Then, we hire a promising not proven head coach but strongly suggest he keep the current DC.

CJF is then asked to run his program but with the previous DC. This is unusual--not so much because of Bud's record but because of the connection to the past and previously existing culture.

Thus, CJF has used extra time to put in place his culture and system (inadvertently, in my opinion, because of the inherent oddity of the coaching situation), and this is not ideal to put it mildly.

Meanwhile, Whit is left in the position, partly because of his own respect to the previous staff (understandably), of managing this athletics income-providing component in a slightly compromised manner. He cannot allow the team to decline again record wise and do nothing about it, in my opinion.

We don't know how this is going to play out. It has always been a unique situation, and Fuente isn't proven (not that I'm a doubter) at the FBS level.
