is the crux of the matter. I believe you are correct. The uncertainty can be used against VT on the recruiting trail and the impact is largely determined by how VT chooses to respond and address questions. Expecting a 17-19 year old to pragmatically think about the uncertainties inherent in any situation is asking a lot. They get what is sitting right in front of them which is a large part of the distinction between Bud's situation or Mack Brown's current situation and what the reality was of Frank's latter years.

Frank due to whatever(health, age, philosophy, etc.) was no where near as active on the road as his head coaching competition. Bud's situation is all about engagement. VT saw it with Dax, however, if he chooses to engage he has to be ready to answer questions about his future and counter what others might be saying. Mack Brown is doing that now with hitting the road some and the ready made answer he did not take the job to leave in a year. As time passes that ready made answer will not suffice and that window closes quicker if he does not win early.
