I know one of Lafonte's cousins. Basically James Franklin promised him he was going to be a quarterback all the way, and said VT would move him to another position. So he signed with Vandy, against the advice of some of his family.

Within a few weeks, Franklin had moved him to running back.

Not that it matters, because Thoroughgood wasn't good enough to play any position at the college level.
