Seth had 9 years at VT and many more at other D1 schools

as a head coach. He didn't get it done at VT or anywhere else. Buzz did more to get VT basketball on an upward trajectory in 5 years than Seth did in 9 years. Buzz did more at Marquette than Seth did at VT to get a competent team on the floor. Buzz wasn't committed or loyal to VT for the "long term" and had one foot out the door virtually the whole time he was here, but while he was here there was constant and consistent improvement in the toughest league in D1. Seth is not even in the same league as Buzz as a coach, motivator, and as someone who gets the most out of the resources/players he has at his disposal. And more importantly, Seth was never going to be - and 9 years proves it - a winner capable of challenging the top echelon of ACC programs when compared to Buzz. He'd be at VT or head coach somewhere else if he was good enough to get and keep a top job.
