NCAA doesn't actually keep that much money. The majority of it actually goes back to its member schools.

Fans always want to blame the NCAA for everything, most of the blame needs to be directed at the schools themselves. They set up the NCAA. They are the ones that set up its rules. The NCAA can't take a piss unless it gets approval from the schools first.

if the NCAA didn't handle compliance the schools and/or conferences would have to figure out and pay for another mechanism to handle it.
