As I remember, he was not a starter on his HS team (a super Louisville HS team with Wes Unsold and Butch Beard). When he became newcomer of the year in the Southern Conference, he decided he wanted to play for Bones McKinney at Wake. Bones retired before he was eligible but Tech played Wake in home and home series back then. When he came back to Blacksburg my Junior year and fouled out, the band played Taps. LOL
