Thanks for the lesson but that’s not the definition of arbitrary either


The definition is determined by chance, whim, or impulse, and not by necessity, reason, or principle.

How did they come up with 100 miles other than it’s a nice round number? Is there any evidence that 101 miles (or 108 miles or whatever) is appreciably more of a burden on the student athlete and less beneficial with regard to the circumstance than 99 miles (or 96 miles or whatever)?

Was there any consideration into how those miles could or would be travelled? Or the mode/ease of transportation?

I could go on...because on the face of it, the rule appears to be...arbitrary. The number seems to have been picked out of thin air without any connection to the value (or lack thereof) it adds to the process.
