Unfortunately, and to the dismay of some Virginia Tech hoops fans, Mike Young was unable to convince Zion Williamson to forego his NBA desires and transfer to Virginia Tech. This comes as a shock as the Hokies have a long storied history of luring 5 star - ACC caliber type players into they’re nationally marketed program. So where does Mike Young go from here? Does he have big shoes to fill? Well let’s not forgot who he beat out for this coaching gig with numerous other suitors wanting to win the job; to name a few Roy Williams, Jay Wright, and Tom Izzo were salivating at this job. Mike Young, who takes over a program that is all but built for immediate success, has done little in the enormous amount of time he has been at the helm for the Hokies. Former coach Buzz Williams surprisingly leaves behind a team with high end contributors at each position. It appears Mike Young can only go down from here if he continues to lose these 4 and 5 star ACC caliber players. With most of the 2019 and 2020 recruits as well as 80% of transfer portal and graduate players showing Virginia Tech in their top 2 choices, who will Mike Young fail to bring in next?
