I don't consider the number of years in the NFL to be a definitive
indicator on how "great" a player may be because there are other factors to consider. For example, Luke McCown spent 10 seasons in the NFL, Vinny Testaverde spent 21 seasons in the NFL, and Steve DeBerg spent 18 seasons in the NFL. I suspect most people wouldn't consider those 3 QBs to be "great" QBs. Instead, most would probably consider them to be "journeyman QBs."
Also, I don't consider where a player ranks as a leader at his college/university to a definitive indicator on how "great" a player is because there are other factors to consider. Even though Errict Rhett is the all-time leading rusher at Florida, he currently ranks #104 among all of NCAA DI All-Time which includes QBs (Denard Robinson #61 and Pat White #64) as well as RBs that I don't consider to be "great" because they may have faced easier competition. For example Bobby Rainey is a RB from Western Kentucky and ranks #58 on the list. Another reason I don't consider school rankings to be definitive is because it may not accurately reflect the history of the program. Likewise, some school records may be easier to break than others.
If you want to consider those 3 RBs to be "great," then that is fine with me. If you don't want to respect my opinion because I don't agree with your opinion, then that is fine with me. Life is too short to worry about trying to please everyone all the time.
