I think fandom should be like parenting...

Unconditional love but not unconditional praise.

If we're having a discussion of Xs and Os, talent, in-game decisions, recruiting, etc., I think it's appropriate to be as objective as possible -- praising the positives and critiquing the areas in need of further development.

However, none of that should detract from passion, enthusiasm, or even love for the team/program/school. I don't really care about the Spring Game, but I'm all for fans supporting the team and looking for opportunities to express their passion, loyalty, and appreciation.

I don't really understand the people who show up just to criticize constantly. What's the point of that? How is that fun? How does that contribute to their well-being AT ALL? Again, I understand critiquing aspects of the program -- but some folks seem almost incapable of being happy or enjoying VT football. It isn't life-and-death. It's football. Life goes on -- whether VT goes 15-0 or 6-7. Why are so many fans so grumpy?

Anyway, I'll be interested to see what analysis comes out of the spring scrimmage. I hope the folks who attended had a good time. I will, as always, enjoy VT football this fall!

Cheers.
