We have hired the CJF of basketball as our head coach.

Talk of academic integrity and playing as a whole team (pretty cliche for most coaches to say at the D1 level). His personality makes him very comparable to Coach Fuente in that he is level-headed and plain dull.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. But those who have been with Virginia Tech basketball for the long haul know the drill. Depending on who stays, we could be an NIT or no-post-season team for 2019-2020. It's going to take some time for Young's system to act cohesively. Unlike football, most players are graduating or moving on from the program, which should prevent any Kumah/Hill situations in the locker room. But it sounds like the days of top-ACC three point shooting is over. Young likes a more thorough approach to distributing the ball, getting everyone involved, and finding high percentage looks, from what he said in the presser.

The thing that makes me the happiest is that he is a local and is willing to stay until he retires, given the opportunity. Whit sounds confident in his coaching and recruiting abilities, and that's honestly enough for me. Players like Bede, NAW, Ahmed, and JRob all stayed 45 minutes after the presser to hang out with the fans. I understand that the last 3 of those names will be overseas or at a higher level come fall, but it gives me hope that Bede likes Blacksburg and the culture here enough to stay. On the less-bright side, guys like Kerry and Tyrece hopped out as soon as the presser finished. Might be making a mountain out of a molehill, but who knows
