The difference is that they all have established programs that are


competing at a high level. Young is 55 and getting his first P5 job at a school that isn't like UNC for when Roy was hired. Roy was also a very well established coach who left one blueblood for another.

Bennett was 40 when he was hired by UVA, not 50.

No one is in up in arms about him being too old to coach. It's about starting his Power 5 career at the age of 55. If it takes him 5 years to figure it out to moderate success, he may be looking to retire by 65-68. That means 5 years of decent to good success and then VT has to find another hire.

Not trying to justify it, just what I am gleaning from most of the comments.
