I'm confused by these posts about self-interested people (coaches, players)

Buzz has been 100% committed to developing this program and its culture as well as the players (as both players and young men). He took a program that was atrocious and turned it into an upper-tier ACC program (Top 20 team in the country).

The level of altruism and charity fans expect of him is literally insane. So the guy, perhaps, has the opportunity to double his annual income AND get his family closer to home -- and he's a jerk for jumping at such an opportunity? Why? He hasn't done enough for VT basketball? What exactly is required of him? Is he suppose to remain at VT for the remainder of his coaching career? When would he be "allowed" to leave without castigation from you?

I'm genuinely interested in understanding when it is appropriate for a player or coach to make a professional decision that's in their best interest and the best interest of their family? According to some here, it seems the answer is "never." They are to always and only do what is in the best interest of VT and VT fans.

Do you apply these same standards for altruism to yourself? You would, I presume, turn down a job that would pay you twice as much and get you closer to extended family out of loyalty to your current employer. If so, you're a unique human being for caring more about your employer and employees than about the well-being of your family. If not, you're a hypocrite.

Personally, I'm eternally grateful to Coach Buzz for resurrecting a dead program in a very short period of time. I wish he would stay but if moving on is best for him and his family, how can I possibly fault him for that?

By the way, the same applies to NAW. If he's ready for the NBA and it serves him and his family best, I'll wish him nothing but the best.

Life is too short to feel aggrieved by a college coach or athlete merely because they move on from my alma mater.
