I want Buzz to stay but here's a name Whit knows that hasn't been mentioned

Has anybody talked about Roanoke native Russell Turner yet?

Coach of UC-Irvine. They've won 30 games this year. It's not a stretch to see them winning two games and getting to the Sweet 16. He could very well already be on Whit's radar. Read the hyperlink below about this season's team. There's always 1 or 2 coaches for smaller conference teams who make a big splash in the early rounds and whose stock skyrockets during the NCAA tourney, leading then to a larger gig at a Power Conference school.

His mom still lives in Roanoke. Dad is in Virginia, too. Brother in NC. I think he'd come to VT in a heartbeat. All this guy ever does in win.

I remember him playing for that outstanding Patrick Henry High School team with Curtis Blair (went on to play for Richmond; now an NBA ref), Percy Covington (who went to VMI), Bernard Basham (played football for Virginia Tech) and the 6th man on that team was (sophomore?) George Lynch (UNC star player and a nice career in the NBA). They went 29-1during Russell's senior year and won the Group AAA Virginia state title in '88. Upset #1 DeMatha with Alonzo Mourning that year in a tournament played in Roanoke (I was there!) I was a Junior in High School. The following year my high school, Cave Spring, advanced in state tournament pretty far...with some good players who didn't go on to have the basketball careers that those PH kids did. Anyway, Russell went on to become an Div. III All-American at Hampden-Sydney. This is another good Roanoke Times article about him if you want to cut & paste into browser:
