The UR program is a disaster.

They made the sweet 16 (not the final four) in 2011. Haven't sniffed the NCAA tourney since. Mooney got a 10(!) year contract extension after that 2011 season and has reacted like most people do when they have a lot of money and very little accountability.. by coasting. Fan interest and attendance has been plummeting for years. Player attrition is through the roof (makes VT football's recent portal experience look like nothing). The team has barely shown a pulse in the A10 for several seasons and has racked up some really bad nonconf losses to the likes of Longwood, Delaware, and Jacksonville State.

Mooney may be a nice guy, but he's not being paid tons of $$ to be a nice guy. In today's sports world, high pay means high accountability, and high expectations to win. UR fans who actually care about hoops (a shrinking number) have been pressing two different ADs for a change, over multiple seasons of futility, and have been met with silence and/or indifference. It's a legit question for them to ask if their school admin even cares about a winning hoops program at this point. Mooney has taken a program that used to be a perennial NCAA player and reduced it to a Stokesian level. To compare him with Tarrant is laughable. I've got no problem with the billboard and continue to be amazed at how many fans are so protective of coaches. If coaches are going to get lavish 10 year contracts based on one good season, they sure as heck should get some heat after multiple bad ones. Heck, if someone told me today my employer would have to pay me for the next 10 years no matter what kind of job I did, and the only cost to me would be a billboard complaining about that arrangement, I'd take that deal in a heartbeat.
