the older coach allows it to be used against them or not. How the older coach addresses questions from recruits and, just as important, the energy and commitment an older coach shows in actually getting out on the road can all influence how their age is perceived. Also, in Mack Brown's case, Tim Brewster is a huge asset in offsetting negative spins as are several of his younger assistants. Mack has one other thing working in his favor right now. He was just hired. Most people tend to think of a new hire, regardless of age, walking in the door not getting ready to walk out the door.
