Yeah, it is good, for the players, who actually play the game
For fans who want to mentally project themselves as though they have some kind of part ownership of the program, it would definitely upset their apple cart. Individual players having more options available to them is a good thing. I wouldn't expect someone who joined the company 3 years ago, hired under a different manager than is there now, to keep staying there if they can get a position just as good somewhere else. I don't know why I, or anyone, would expect them to continue to punish themselves for making the wrong decision back then.
Honestly, the fact that players getting even the slightest shred of additional autonomy in this sport sends coaches, fans, boosters, TV pundits into such a froth should really tell you all you need to know about the power structure of college football as a whole.
