Not getting off the the field on third down. That is one of the


most important things. When you get dominated on third down, you usually lose, and it usually means the other team outplayed you.

If one just looked at the yards, then yes one may think it was closer.
If one watched the game, then yes one would be more informed on why it was a beatdown for three quarters.
