You essentially posted my next argument/point....

The sport would rescue itself from complete failure, therein, helping the greater good (Olympic sports). But it must fail for a couple of years for the schools to realize that the CFB product is not a golden goose above reproach. It's marketability, IMO, is greatly over extended with season length/schedules, ticket prices, and a bowl schedule beyond what many care extend to.
