It's certainly possible to focus on academics as an athlete, but the guys who are borderline 1st round picks probably haven't made academics and private sector networking a priority focus during school.

By fallback I mean finding anything remotely comparable to what they'd be making in the NFL, which is very hard with just a standard Bachelor's degree especially without networking. At this point a diploma is pretty much just a receipt of purchase that checks a box for employers.
